Profit & Loss : Overview and Practice Questions

Profit and loss is a topic which is commonly asked in the GRE. The questions can come in all formats (for question formats, refer to Introduction to Quantitative Reasoning ) and are usually of easy to medium difficulty. We start with some basic definitions and a formula sheet. To provide clarity, we have added some practice problems with their respective answers.    Basic definitions Cost Price (CP) : The price paid by a person to buy a product is the cost price of the product for that person.  Selling Price (SP) :  The price at which a person sells a product is the sales price of the product for that person.  Gain : If SP>CP then the difference SP-CP is known as gain or profit. Loss : if CP>SP then the difference CP-SP is known as loss. Marked Price (MP) : While selling goods, a certain percentage is added to the cost price. There are many words which are similar in pronunciation, meaning or spelling. Choosing the right word that best fits your purpose can thus become a tedious task. In GRE, you will be provided with only a simple text editor without a feature of auto-correct and thus there might be instances where you may get confused between certain words. In such instances, it becomes important that you are aware of words that can confuse you. So, we have made a collection of commonly misused/confused words in GRE. As discussed, vo cabular y is  an important part for an aspirant to ace the Verbal Reasoning section.  Today, we present you with a word list of commonly tested words in the GRE. This word list contains 15 words with their meanings. We will be posting similar word lists for your reference. We have made these word lists by combining words that appeared in the official GRE practice materials. Then we flagged words from major test companies - Barron's, Kaplan, Manhattan and Princeton Review. We combined all these lists with our own words and came up with an exhaustive vocabulary list. The GRE Analytical Writing Assessment (GRE AWA) is a measure of your critical thinking and analytical writing skills.
